Game challenge

For one of our health activities, we had to compete against other classes in two games. The first one was a hoop teamwork game where you and your classmates had to hold hands or wrists in a circle. Two people would start with their arms linked with the hoop hanging off their linked arms, and a timer would start. The goal of the game is to pass the hoop all around the circle till it goes back to the people who started with the hoop. The second game was a in and out game where the whole class was in a circle around a hoop  as someone would yell out in, out, right, and left in different orders as the class had to follow the calls. If you went the wrong way, you were out as you had to step out of the circle. To win the game, the more people left in a class were the winner, or if you still had people in the circle and all the other people on the other team were out. When we versed a class, we had five people left, as the other class had two more people left. My team won both games and won overall over all the other classes. We are doing a free period on week nine, tuesday for our prize.

Water ballon challenge

For health today, we did this really fun game that teams of three or four play against each other, passing a small water balloon. Whoever’s team the balloon pops on loses, BUT if the balloon drops and doesn’t pop, they can play on🙆🏽‍♀️. Some of the rules are that you can’t pass the line your team was behind, or else that would have been leaning, and that counts as cheating. My team and I won four matches and lost one, but we won overall, defeating the other winning teams. it was fun to do in groups, but kind of scary if you were the one who dropped the balloon because my teammates lowkey got mad, but over all i would love to do it again.

SOS

Hi, this is my 2026 social studies blog where I will be recording and talking about my social studies progress.

26/2/2026

Lately, we have been learning about New Zealand and British wars, how the Maori fought with tactics like making underground shelters/tunnels, while the British used explosives. We have watched a one-hour movie about it and many short film clips talking and showing what happened during the wars.

DNA Extraction

This week for science, we learnt about DNA and DNA extraction. For this experiment, we had an option to use either strawberries or bananas since they are the fruits with the most cells. For the first step, we had to put the fruit of our choice in a zip-lock bag with a splash of water, a squirt of dish soap, and a teaspoon of salt, then smash till the fruit was a mushy liquid. Then we got a beaker with a straining cloth on top of it, and we slowly poured the mushy liquid into the beaker, as the chunks got strained onto the top of the cloth. After we had the liquid, no chunks, we poured it into the test tube and placed it in the test tube holder as we washed the beaker and the cloth we used. We were supposed to put a bit of warm water to activate it faster, but all the tapes in the science room were all not running hot water so we had to wait a bit. after maybe fifteen minutes, our teacher came with cold ethanol, dripping it down the side of the test tube at the dna cells slowly came to the top. Me and my friends expected there was going to be more dna cells or it was a differnt color but it was just a tiny ball when we mixed all the cells together.

Making clean water

For science I wasn’t there that day but my friend (lee) and the slides on the site will be helping me today. so the steps we did were filtering the water then we placed the breaker with the water on top of the busen burner. but we had a tube in the water to transfer the clean water to another breaker, right after we boiled the water in the other breaker leaving us with clean water.

Marshmallow Tower

Marshmallow tower

For last week’s health game we did this game named “marshmallow tower” we had to work with 3-4 people but the teacher let us work in a five since no one wanted to be left out. we had 12 marshmallows and 8 skewers. with our supplies we had to make a tall Tower within 12 minutes, for the first 8 minutes we kinda messed up but then we saw extra supplies on the table next to us. so we quickly grabbed it and started to make another tower. we didn’t have enough time but we still ended up getting 2nd place thanks to the extra supplies we got. but after everyone’s hands were sticky and everywhere was a mess so we had to clean up a lot.

ESOL Reflection

This week for ESOL I wasn’t there for most of the days but I did observe other people presenting yesterday on Monday. On Tuesday last week me and my group did some reading of the book we were doing for the presentation. as we were reading we would do all our reading roles throughout the book. The activity that we had to do was a slide for our presentation, so as we talked there would be slides behind us explaining to.  After a few days I wasn’t at school due to me being really sick. But when I came back to my group I didn’t have any work since I wasn’t at school for most of the week. So all I did was score other groups such as if they were making eye contact with the audience or if they were speaking loud enough to be heard from all the way to the back of the class.

Effects of heat

Experiment 1: The collapsing can

For the first experiment we poured steaming hot water in a can and placed it on top of a bunsen burner. then we used tongs to pick up the can with the steaming water then dropped it in cold water. making the can implode.

Experiment 2: Melting petroleum jelly

For this experiment we used a busen burner with this long rod with petroleum jelly sticking little needles on the rod then we moved the tip of the rod on top of the busen burner. as the rod was melting up the petroleum jelly the needles started to fall off.

Experiment 3: idk.

For this experiment we had to set up a busen burner as usual, with a beaker on top. we had a little straw to drop the potassium permanganate, we dropped the potassium permanganate through the straw with little tweezers and watched the water turn purple as it was boiling.

Experiment 4: Diffusion

This experiment was similar to experiment four, because for both experiments we used potassium permanganate. but for this one we dropped the potassium permanganate with tweezers in a petri dish. we had two petri dishes one with hot water and the other one with cold water. we had to compare how fast the potassium permanganate would spread in the water.

Rubber band challenge

For this health session we did this game called “rubber band challenge” the goal of the game was to pick up every cup one by one and place it on the other side of the table, but we have to pick cup the cups with five pieces of and 1 rubber band. we had three minutes to plan what we would do with our supplies to move the cup. when the timer went off my team thought of putting all five pieces of string knotted  on the rubber band. so as we started to pick up all five cups one by one all of us would pull on the string to stretch the rubber band so it would go over the cup. then we let go of the string so it would be secured onto the cup, after we started to lift up the cup and place it on the other side of the table. after we did all the cups we placed second place when other people were still doing the task.
